Cairo Tower
The Cairo Tower was designed by Egyptian architect Naoum Shebib and inspired by Ancient Egyptian architecture. It was built between 1956 and 1961. Its partially open lattice-work design is meant to evoke a pharaonic lotus plant, an iconic Ancient Egyptian symbol. The tower is crowned by a circular observation deck and a revolving restaurant[9], both of which rotate around their axes on occasion and provide views of greater Cairo.
According to documents published by Major General Adel Shaheen, the funds for the tower's construction were provided by the United States Government through the CIA, which was represented by Kermit Roosevelt, and provided around $ US1-3 million to Gamal Abdel Nasser as a personal gift with the intent of ending his support for Algerian.
